We are not sure how it would help
Families are units. When one person or one part of the family is having difficulty, it affects everyone in the unit. At the same time, every family member has the capacity to help the other. Working together can lead to change for all.
I am afraid you will judge me or my family
Therapy is designed to give you the space and freedom to talk. No family is perfect and what works for one family might not work for another. My job is to try and understand and support you so that together we can find what works for you.
Parents
Many parents worry that they are not doing “enough”. They ask themselves if they have made the right choices to set their kids up in life.
Unfortunately, parents themselves receive little guidance. Pressure within the marriage, from family and from work can lead parents to suffer from low self esteem, a lower tolerance for stress and difficult relationships at home.
Most of my clients have difficulties with:
low self esteem
guilt
fear
feelings of stress and burnout
difficulty remaining calm when they try to communicate with their family
Many of my clients ask the following:
How do I know when my teen’s behaviour is normal and when should I worry/take action?
Why has my child changed so much, I don’t recognise them anymore?
What can I do to stay calm when I am so worried/frustrated/angry?
How do I reach out to my teen when they don’t want to spend time with me anymore?
How do I help them become more independent when they struggle with responsibility?
How do I convince them to listen to me when they no longer show respect for me?

What sort of support do you offer?
I work with parents to help them feel more confident in their choices, work more closely together and find effective ways to strengthen their relationship with their child/ren.
I want to attend therapy but my partner doesn’t:
It is always ideal to see both parents, but sometimes that is not possible. If one parent takes the first step, the support they receive will help the family and perhaps encourage their partner to join them in therapy.
