Let’s work together
It is interesting how many different cultures are present in international schools, but also how few are actively understood.
It seems as though there is an umbrella (often Western, binary, neurotypical)ethos that prevails and within that the nuance of different cultures is either ignored or taken for granted.
Unless we understand the different beliefs and intentions that underpin the words and gestures of our colleagues, students and parents, it is inevitable that we will miss cues, and in some cases, trample over feelings.
